Guidelines & Policies

All campers enjoy access to the bathhouse, hiking trails, trash dumpsters, a year-round potable water station, and the on-site septic dump station. All RV and dome sites include space for one vehicle parked on-site or adjacent to their spot and a seasonal water spigot (roughly May 15 – Oct. 15, pending weather). Campers staying at primitive sites, as well as any campers with more than one vehicle, may park near the old hotel building – just a short, easy walk to the campsites. An unloading/loading area is provided for Primitive Site campers and carts to tote your things to the nearby sites are provided. This arrangement keeps the sites free of car traffic and feeling more secluded. Please note that all campground traffic flow is one-way – enter near the east end of the old building and loop around to the west end.

Reservations & Check-In/Out:

  • Check-In/Check-Out: Check-in is at 3:00 PM; check-out is at 11:00 AM. Early check-in or late check-out may be available upon request. If staff are not on site at the office, simply call us at 906-254-1384.
  • Payment: Your first night’s fee was charged to your credit card at the time of booking and is a NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT. The remaining balance for RV and Primitive Sites will be automatically charged to the same card 6 DAYS before check-in. The remaining balance for Eco-Domes will be automatically charged to the same card 13 DAYS before check-in. If you would like to use a payment method other than the card on file for the remaining balance, please call us.

Cancellations & Refunds:

  • RV and Primitive Sites: Cancellation 7+ Days Prior to Arrival will receives a full refund, minus the first night deposit. Within 7 Days of Arrival: No refund. Nov., Dec., Apr. cancellations allowed up to the day before.
  • Eco-Domes: Cancellation 14+ Days Prior to Arrival will receives a full refund, minus the first night deposit. Within 14 Days of Arrival: No refund. Nov., Dec., Apr. cancellations allowed up to the day before.
  • Early Departure: No refunds for unused nights.
  • No Show Policy: You are considered a No Show if you do not arrive by midnight on your scheduled check-in date. No refunds will be issued for unused nights in the event of a No Show. If you anticipate arriving after midnight, or a day late, please contact Campfire Shores staff in advance. Without prior communication, your Site or Dome will be released back into circulation and may be booked by other guests.

Site Use:

  • Amenities: All campers enjoy access to the bathhouse, hiking trails, common gathering areas, outdoor games, a seasonal potable water station, an on-site septic dump station, and trash dumpster.
  • Pets: Pets must remain on a leash at all times. Guests must clean up after their pets. There is a two pet maximum unless otherwise approved by Campfire Shores Management. The eco-domes have a $25/stay pet fee.
  • Smoking: Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited inside the bathhouse, in common spaces, and on trails.
  • Trash Disposal: A shared use dumpster is provided near the old hotel building for easy trash disposal.
  • A $150 cleaning fee will be applied if pet waste, cigarette butts, and/or trash are left around the campsite. Likewise, a $150 cleaning fee will be applied if heavy trash is left in the dome, or waste is left in the dome-a-loo, or if arrant smells have been made to accumulated in the dome.
  • Parking: All RV and dome sites include space for one vehicle parked on-site or adjacent. Primitive sites are designed to be traffic-free/vehicle-free to maintain their secluded nature. Guests staying at primitive sites, as well as any guests with more than one vehicle, need to park near the old hotel building in the designated Campground Parking Area – just a short, easy walk to the campsites. Please note that all campground traffic flow is one-way – enter near the east end of the old building and loop around to the west end.

Site and Community Rules:

  • Quiet hours are 10:00 PM – 7:00 AM. This includes pets.
  • Guests must follow all Campfire Shores campground rules and posted signage.
  • Campfires are only allowed in designated fire rings.
  • ATVs and snowmobiles (sleds) are not allowed in common areas. A designated AVT/Sled parking area with direct ATV/Sled trail access is located at the east end of the campground.

Damage and Responsibility

  • Guest is financially responsible for any damage, loss, or excessive cleaning caused during the stay. Campfire Shores reserves the right to charge the guest’s credit card on file for any damages to the site.
  • Furniture and fixtures such as the picnic table and fire ring must not be moved.
  • Games and any other hospitality or amenity items provided in common areas, the domes, or the bathhouse are for use only during your stay.
  • Please report any maintenance issues immediately so we can resolve them promptly.

We offer 5 glamping eco-domes, 5 primitive (tent) sites without utilities, 22 gravel pad sites for RVs up to 35’all with electric and seasonal water, a few with septic hook-up as well. Some RV sites have grassy areas and could accommodate tents as well.

BATHHOUSE CURRENTLY PLANNED TO CLOSE JANUARY 3.

All trailer sites offer 30 AMP electric and seasonal (Mid-May – Oct.) water hookups. Some sites also have septic hookup. Please check individual site details when booking. We’ll slowly be upgrading some sites to 50 amp, stay tuned for that.

No, we do not have pull-through sites. All sites are designed to be backed into.

Yes, we do! There is a dump station located near the bathhouse for guests who need it. You’ll also find a potable water connection near the dump station, along with a few outdoor hoses—handy for rinsing off dogs, muddy shoes, coolers, or large dishes.

The Primitive Sites are tucked into a grove of trees. You can drive up to an unloading/loading area where there are carts to help you make the short walk to your site. This arrangement keeps the sites free of car traffic and feeling more secluded. Each site has a 20×20 tent ‘pad’ made of a mix of sand and mulch. One site, Loon, has two pads for larger groups with multiple tents. Each site has its own picnic table and fire ring. If you are looking to camp in or immediately adjacent to your car, an RV site is a better fit for you and you can filter the RV sites on the reservation page for those with grassy areas for tents.

Yes! Tent campers have access to potable water near the bathhouse, as well as a few outdoor hoses that are great for rinsing off dogs, muddy shoes, dishes, or coolers. If you need to charge phones, tablets, or other small devices, electrical outlets are available inside the bathhouse for your convenience. If you’d prefer to have those utilities at your site, some RV sites have grassy areas and could accommodate tents as well (use the filter on the reservation page to find those). Our tent sites (Primitive Sites) do not have parking immediately next to them or as part of the site. Rather, there is an unloading area very near the sites, and after unloading you take your car to a nearby parking lot. We have carts to help take your stuff from the unloading area to the sites (1 minute walk) and the parking area is a 2-3 minute walk from the sites. This layout keeps our Primitive Sites vehicle free, and feeling more secluded.

Yes, but you will want to reserve one of the NON-Primitive sites. Our Primitive sites do not have car access or on-site parking.

No, Campfire Shores is not staffed around the clock. However, the office is staffed regularly roughly 9:00 – 4:30 during peak season and part-time during the off-season. If we are not at the office or it is after office hours, please call 906-254-1384 and leave a voicemail – we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

We’re still exploring whether we’ll stay open all winter. We’re currently planning to be open until Jan 3 and reopening for the season in April, 2027. We offer more flexible cancellation policies for reservations in Nov. – Dec. & April – Mid-May due to extreme weather swings during these months. If we find there is enough interest from campers for winter camping, and if we’re able to adequately heat the eco-domes, we may stay open year-round. Yes. Currently firewood is available for sale at the office during office hours roughly (9:00 – 4:30 pm), or you can pre-order it to your campsite with your reservation. If you make a reservation late in the day, same-day firewood delivery may not be available. We hope to install a firewood sales locker system in the spring of 2027.

Amenities

Yes, we have a bathhouse located at the west end of the campground with fully enclosed (private) restrooms and showers – flushable toilets and hot water! It’s cleaned regularly, and we do our best to keep it comfortable and tidy.

All sites include new, modern picnic tables and fire rings. Grills or grilling grates are NOT provided.

Campfire Shores features four interconnected trails that allow you to mix and match your route for a variety of scenic loops and distances. All of the trails wind through wooded areas and showcase unique habitats—including emergent wetlands, cedar swamps, fens, and reclaimed sand dunes woods. Expect moderate elevation changes with some gentle ups and downs, but nothing too strenuous.

Please note: Some sections of the trails are seasonally wet, so sturdy, waterproof footwear is highly recommended for those routes. We’re currently working on adding boardwalks across low-lying areas, but in the meantime, be ready for a little mud—or choose to stick to the drier stretches.

Our trails offer a truly special experience, with thick mossy forest floors, diverse spring wildflowers, vibrant mushrooms, and the occasional forested dune climb for those who want a bit of elevation.

Yes! Whether you’re visiting with a group or just enjoy meeting fellow campers, Campfire Shores offers a few relaxed gathering areas—with more on the way. You’ll find outdoor seating and yard games set up near the west end of the campground, just a short walk from the bathhouse.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to unveil an event pavilion at the east end of the campground in late 2027. This space will host both public and private events and feature amenities like a bar, live music, games, and guided hikes.

Not yet – but a camp store is in the works for the near future! In the meantime, Campfire Shores is conveniently located just 1.5 miles from downtown Manistique, where you’ll find a full-service grocery store, hardware stores, local shops, and a variety of restaurants to choose from.

We encourage campers to unplug and enjoy nature! While we don’t currently offer Wi-Fi on site, most major carriers have pretty reliable cell service at the campground. We do plan to add Wi-Fi access in the near future.

There are not ATV trails within the campground itself, but Campfire Shores has direct access to a county-maintained trail that forms the north boundary of our property. This trail connects to hundreds of miles of ATV and snowmobile trails throughout Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We offer a designated ATV parking area at the east end of the campground. For everyone’s safety, ATVs are not permitted in common gathering areas.

Rules & Policies

For RV and Primitive Sites, cancellations made 7 days or more in advance will receive a full refund, minus the first night’s deposit. Cancellations made within 7 days of arrival are non-refundable. For Eco-domes, cancellations made 14 days or more in advance will receive a full refund, minus the first night’s deposit. Cancellations made within 14 days of arrival are non-refundable. We do not offer refunds for bad weather conditions. We do however offer a more flexible cancellation policy in Nov. – Dec. & April – Mid-May due to extreme weather swings during these months.

Yes, a NON-refundable first night’s deposit is taken at the time of reservation. A security deposit is not required, but Campfire Shores reserves the right to charge damage fees or excessive cleaning fees for both campsites and eco-domes.

The full cost of the stay is billed out 6 days in advance of your arrival at campsites and 13 days in advance at eco-domes. Generally speaking, there are not refunds for early departures or no-shows. Extenuating circumstances may be considered at the discretion of management.

Yes, pets are welcome at Campfire Shores! For our glamping eco-domes, we allow up to 2 pets per dome and charge a $25 pet fee. There is not a pet fee for the campsites. Having more than 2 pets per campsite requires the permission of Campfire Shores management. All pets must be kept on a leash at all times, including on the hiking trails, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after them. Bagged pet waste can be easily disposed of in the dumpster. We also ask that pets observe quiet hours to help ensure a peaceful experience for all guests.

We are Campfire Shores for a reason – we love campfires! Campfires are allowed in designated fire rings only, unless a burn ban is in effect. Please never leave fires unattended. Unattended fires may be extinguished by staff.

Guidance & Insights

Please report any issues to campground staff immediately. Damage to amenities will be your financial responsibility, but we appreciate knowing quickly so we can get it fixed for you and also not have it impact the next guest. Campfire Shores reserves the right to charge damage fees or excessive cleaning fees for both campsites and eco-domes. If you simply notice something damaged, dirty, or dangerous, please also report that to us quickly at 906-254-1384.

Camping is an outdoor experience. While we can’t control the weather, we’ll do our best to help you stay safe and comfortable. Please follow weather advisories during storms. Refunds are not issued for inclement weather.

Essentials vary based on your site type, but we recommend the usual camping basics—bedding, cooking supplies, matches/lighter/fire-starters, and personal toiletries. If you’re staying in a dome, bedding, towels, a few dishes, coffee/tea, frig, microwave, etc. are included.

Big things! We have exciting plans for both partial demolition and partial renovation of different parts of the building. Once completed, the space will serve as a vibrant event center for both private gatherings like weddings, reunions, and meetings as well as public events such as live music, movie nights, fitness classes, art shows, and holiday celebrations for campers. Our plans for the renovated building also include a bar and lounge area, and a camp store. We’re still exploring options for both short and long-term housing in the far east end. Stay tuned!
