Who says hiking is only a summer activity in the UP? ❄️ Snowshoeing has deep roots here—Native Americans first used them to travel across harsh winter terrain, and early settlers and trappers relied on them to hunt, deliver mail, and move between towns when the snow was too deep to walk. Today, we get to explore those same snowy forests for pure winter fun with lightweight, modern snowshoes. Same beautiful landscapes—just a little more for adventure than survival. Some of our most vocal winter campers aren’t people at all… they’re Common Ravens (Corvus corax) 🖤 They’re elite aerialists: capable of rolls and somersaults and even flying upside down for more than half a mile. Often mistaken for crows, ravens stand out with their impressive 2-foot size and the fact that they’re considered songbirds, able to do much more than just “caw.” Fun UP fact: ravens are actually more common here than crows. These clever omnivores have 30+ vocalizations and distinct regional dialects…Which means they’re already looking forward to seeing all of “youse” around the campfire for some early-morning Northwoods breakfasts, “eh?” 🔥🥓 #ExploreTheUP #campinglife #rvlife #upmichigan #Michigan #Camping #wintercamping

Campfire Shores officially opened in 2025, welcoming guests to our quaint campground, its brand-new bathhouse, miles of scenic hiking trails, and ATV-friendly accommodations. In early 2026, we’ll be unveiling our larger pavilion and outdoor bar—perfect for private celebrations and the heart of our upcoming public events.
