We were so excited to welcome this accomplished group of professional environmental women to Campfire Shores to explore the incredible ecology of the UP on our trails. Scientists, landscape, architects, engineers, nonprofit directors, grant administrators… what a fun group to have here reminding us of the many specials habitats on our property! With most of the group coming from Indiana, the wetlands scientist in the group was thrilled to put her hand on true Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) for the first time in her career. While native and common to MI, it relatively rare and localized in IN. It is found in acidic, soils, pine or oak-heath forests and sandy areas (like our reclaimed dunes here at Campfire Shores). 💚 #nature_lovers #campingvibes #Camping #upmichigan #michigan #manistiquemichigan
